Privacy Policy — RecordKit

Last updated: May 18, 2025

RecordKit ("the Extension") is a free Chrome extension developed by

Sympaweb. This privacy policy explains what data the extension does

and does not collect.

────────────────────────────────────────

1. NO DATA IS COLLECTED

────────────────────────────────────────

RecordKit does not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal

data, usage data, or any other information about you or your device.

Your recordings are processed entirely on your own computer, inside

your browser. No recording, screenshot, audio, or metadata is ever

sent to any server — including ours.

────────────────────────────────────────

2. NO THIRD PARTIES

────────────────────────────────────────

RecordKit does not use any third-party analytics, advertising

networks, tracking pixels, or external services of any kind.

There are no cookies, fingerprinting, or session tracking.

────────────────────────────────────────

3. PERMISSIONS — WHY THEY ARE NEEDED

────────────────────────────────────────

RecordKit requests the following Chrome permissions solely to

perform its core recording function:

• desktopCapture — to display Chrome's screen/window/tab picker

so you can choose what to record.

• tabCapture — to capture audio and video from a browser tab

when Tab is selected as the recording source.

• activeTab — to inject the floating toolbar and drawing overlay

into your current tab during a recording session.

• tabs — to open the preview/download page after a recording ends.

• storage — to save your preferences (toggle states, quality

 setting) locally between sessions.

• unlimitedStorage — recording files can be large; this prevents

Chrome from cutting off a recording due to a storage quota.

• offscreen — to run the media capture pipeline in a background

document, as required by Chrome Manifest V3.

• scripting — to inject the floating toolbar and webcam overlay

 into web pages during recording.

• notifications — to alert you if a recording fails to start or

 encounters an error.

None of these permissions are used to collect or transmit data.

────────────────────────────────────────

4. LOCAL STORAGE ONLY

────────────────────────────────────────

The only information stored by RecordKit is your in-extension

preferences (such as whether microphone or webcam overlay is

enabled). This data is stored locally in Chrome's storage API

on your own device and is never transmitted anywhere.

────────────────────────────────────────

5. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

────────────────────────────────────────

RecordKit does not knowingly collect any information from anyone,

including children under the age of 13.

────────────────────────────────────────

6. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

────────────────────────────────────────

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be

published at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. Continued

use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of

the updated policy.
